Supporting Western North Carolina After Hurricane Helene
Absolute Home Loan Services CEO Jennifer Moody lived in Florida for more than 30 years and experienced many hurricanes firsthand. Because of that experience, she understands what disaster response should look like and how quickly help needs to reach affected communities.
When Hurricane Helene struck Western North Carolina in September 2024, Jennifer began seeing posts from friends on Facebook describing severe devastation and a lack of assistance. After watching national news coverage for days without hearing much about the region’s situation and speaking directly with friends in both Georgia and Western North Carolina, she felt compelled to step in and help.
At the time, many private citizens in Northeast Georgia were organizing their own rescue and supply missions. Some were using private planes and helicopters to reach isolated communities, rescue stranded residents, and deliver critical supplies. Local first responders were also traveling to the area to assist with search and rescue efforts.
Jennifer’s involvement began by donating supplies to volunteers making these deliveries and helping connect a trapped family with a private helicopter rescue. Soon after, she made her first trip to the region to deliver supplies and cook a meal for residents in the Swannanoa, North Carolina area.
What she saw during that trip was devastating. Entire communities had been severely damaged. Many people had no access to clean water, electricity, or basic resources. Families had lost loved ones and homes, and some residents were wandering through the area in shock with only the clothes they were wearing.
That experience changed everything.
Jennifer began traveling throughout the region regularly to deliver essential supplies and assist communities that had received little outside help. One of the most urgent needs she encountered was housing. Many people were living in tents or sleeping in their cars, so she began working to secure donated RVs to provide temporary shelter.
Today, Jennifer continues these humanitarian efforts thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses throughout Northeast Georgia who donate supplies, funding, and equipment.
She works closely with several organizations in the affected areas, including:
-
Blue Collar Relief
-
Operation Rising Sun
Both are veteran-owned nonprofit organizations actively supporting recovery efforts in Western North Carolina.
Through trusted contacts across the region, Jennifer remains connected to the ongoing needs of these communities and continues helping deliver food, supplies, and housing resources to those rebuilding their lives.
